MCMTM Joint Distribution Sub-base Installation

Object : This method is required to install an MCM sub-base on which an MCM cabinet will be bolted. Please note that all the sub-bases must be installed exactly where showed on the surveyor or engineered drawings indicating the joint distribution points. Then, following these easy steps will ensure a proper installation.

1. Excavate to the required depth, which is approx. 72 in. (1825 mm) below the specified final grade level. At the bottom of the excavation made, build-up a foundation of 6 in. (150 mm) thick of well graded aggregates 0-3/4 in. (0-20 mm) compacted to 90% MP. Top of compacted foundation will then be at 66 in. (1675 mm) below specified final grade level shown on engineering drawings.
2. Lower sub-base on compacted foundation and align internal cross parallel to the street so that the side pictograms are correctly positioned towards :
Energy : house side     -     Telecommunications : street side

3. If any, remove cover and place a hand level on top of sub-base. Maintain the subbase level while dumping 0-3/4 in. (0-20 mm) aggregates around the sub-base foot and compacting in eight-inch layers up to the level on the sub-base indicated as «top of aggregates». Attain 90% MP compaction for every 8 in. (200mm) layer. Make sure that the area close to center of the sub-base is also compacted.
The sub-base is now ready to receive the distribution conduits and elbows.
4. Install the various elbows required for all the different networks in the sequence indicated by the standards and specifications (a guide issued by the CERIU is available in french). Basic rule: large network conduits go in the center and smaller customer conduits are installed closer to the outside perimeter. Then, attach all the elbows solidly to the sub-base, between the holes and the rods in every section. Install grounding rod and wire as required for each sub-base.
5. After plugging all elbows at both ends with properly fitted caps, center a 3/4 in. (19 mm) plywood concrete form 48 x 48 in. (1200 x 1200 mm) around the sub-base and pour flowable concrete fill (0,4 MPa) inside up to the height indicated on the sub-base side «top of flowable concrete». Shake the concrete if necessary with a 2x4 to ensure it completely fills all voids in the center of the sub-base and around the elbows.
6. Once the concrete fill has solidified, you may cut the elbows at the specified height and fold back wires and cables into the sub-base so as to reinstall the red cover, if required. Red cover is fastened to the sub-base with four supplied bolts and can be double-padlocked to prevent unauthorized access. Finally, strip the concrete form and IMMEDIATELY BACKFILL the remaining excavation to required level to shore up the concrete fill.

MCM™Joint Distribution Cabinet Installation

Object : This method is required to install an MCM cabinet on top an MCM steel sub-base already in place (for installation instructions for sub-base, see sheet # HT-sub-base-V_). Following these five easy steps will ensure a proper installation.

Preparation
1. With sub-base installed, take off the safety (red) cover and then the plastic sleeves on the four threaded rods protruding from the sub-base. Insert a nut and a flat washer (found in a plastic bag in one of the upper compartments of the cabinet) onto each of the four threaded rods. Position the nuts so that each flat washer ends up leveled to the top of the sub-base (photo). The MCM sub-base is then ready to receive the MCM cabinet.

Levelling
2. Once properly oriented, slowly lower the cabinet onto the threaded rods. With a hand level resting on the top of the cabinet, use an open wrench to adjust the nuts (already installed in step 1) to achieve full contact between each flat washer and every leg UNDERSIDE, until the cabinet is perfectly level. Complete this step by checking BY HAND (without any tools) to make sure that the four nuts and washers are in full contact with the underside of each leg.

Hand tightening
3. Insert a washer and a regular nut on every threaded rod. Diagonally, tighten all nuts with an open (hand) wrench (approx. 60 ft-lb). The cabinet must remain perfectly level. IF NOT LEVEL, loosen these nuts and REPEAT STEP 2 to reestablish proper cabinet level.

Torquing
4. With a fastened and level cabinet, proceed to final tightening by diagonally torquing, starting with the last nuts installed in step 2, WITH A TORQUE WRENCH to 120 ft-lb. Insert a (half) jam nut on top of each of the tightened nuts and tighten the jam nuts with a HAND WRENCH.
Important: DO NOT torque the jam nuts with a torque wrench.

The cabinet will then be ready to receive the lamp post.

Skirt and bumper
5. Close all doors. Make sure all small lower doors (below large doors) are bolted shut. Then, unfold the neoprene skirt in order to surround the sub-base, make sure it is attached with tyraps to close all gaps. Install 2 half-bumpers using the nuts supplied. The assembled bumper must be freely resting on the small steel tabs emerging from the small lower doors. Lastly, check that the temporary cover on top of the cabinet is in place and properly sealed. Lock or bolt all doors.
