  • Contain the 120/240V connections, up to 400 A per home;
  • Contain the telephone and cable TV connections;
  • Serve as a base to install and connect a lamp post;
  • Include other protection or mesuring devices, as required;
  • Ensure proper grounding of all of the assumed functions.

As per the local Standards of the power and telecommunication utilities, the number of homes connected on a MCM cabinet (Model 506) will vary from 4 to 8 individual (or semi-detached homes). With regards to multi-storey buildings, commonly only the various telecommunication connections will customarily be found in the nearby MCM cabinet.

In special cases and for larger distribution equipment such as traditional meters, disconnect switches or telecommunication amplifiers, an MCM cabinet Model 508 (cathedral type) would be utilized. The 508 Model is identical to the 506 on the exterior, however, it is divisioned differently on the interior to accommodate this type of equipment.

Every MCM cabinet is 360 degrees accessible, and is equipped with several sub-compartments which can be utilized individually or grouped. The layout of an MCM cabinet's usable volume of about 8000 cu. in. (131 000 c.c.), can also be reconfigured at will as the needs of the users evolve.

The MCM cabinet is solidly bolted down on a sub-base specifically designed by MCM. Made of thick steel and protected with a durable finish, this sub-base allows for the introduction within the base of numerous underground conduits. The sub-base is envelopped in a cube made of flowable concrete (0,4 Mpa), poured in place, to make for a compact yet solid infrastructure, safely supporting the cabinet and the lamp post attached above and which infrastructure could be re-excavated later on as needed.
