Standard Configurations

The standard MCM System can be integrated in two main configurations: dedicated and joint. This page will help you decide which one is for you.

Standard Joint Configuration (120/240V)

The MCM Joint Distribution Pedestal, or MCM-JDP, was introduced by MCM in Quebec in spring of 2005 in new residential projects, as a natural extension of the common trenching concept for the power and telecom underground (U/G) networks. Since then, the MCM Base has evolved to become an optimal solution improving several aspects of the U/G networks, while greatly improving the visual environment of these projects. Today, we find almost 1800 MCM-JDPs installed in more than 35 municipalities in Quebec, Canada.

The following schematics show typical layouts of the MCM-JDP in a new development project with semi-detached homes. The top one is for lamp posts on either side of the street, the bottom one for lamp posts on one side only. For other types of configuration using the MCM Bases, please refer to the MCM Configurations Table. For a detailed description of the design process, please refer to the Integration design process in six steps below.

Dedicated Configuration

The MCM Bases can be used as dedicated pedestals, either for power or for telecom services. The benefits are similar to the MCM-JDP joint system, except that more street crossings are required when selecting the dedicated configuration. Where street crossings is not an issue, the dedicated cofiguration may be seen as a suitable way to integrate the T/C pedestals and extend the reach of the transformers.
